Civil Appeals
Challenging Errors. Preserving Victories.
The appellate process is complex, challenging, and best left to an attorney with proven experience in the appellate courts and specialized expertise in handling civil appeals. Effective appellate advocacy requires detailed knowledge of appellate procedural rules, precise research, meticulous appellate briefing, and persuasive oral argument.
Founding partner, Jesse R. Butler, is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Appellate Practice. Board Certification signifies that the lawyer has met rigorous standards, including peer review, professionalism and ethics, and specialized knowledge, skill, and proficiency in the subject practice area. Less than 250 attorneys in Florida are Board Certified in Appellate Practice.
We assist our clients in navigating the intricate appellate process, across all civil practice areas, including appeals of underlying cases involving personal injuries, wrongful death, probate and trusts, family law, business litigation, real estate, guardianship, commercial disputes, and civil litigation, among other practice areas.
In certain cases, effective appellate representation includes pursuing appeals or original writs prior to the final conclusion of a case. This includes interlocutory appeals, petitions for writs of certiorari, mandamus, prohibition, or quo warranto - highly unusual remedies that can only be obtained in an appellate court.
We are also available to co-counsel or provide assistance to clients or their trial counsel to ensure that errors are properly preserved and that appellate rights are not waived at the trial level. Similarly, we frequently assist in the preparation of critical trial motions, post-trial motions, and evidentiary hearings, to ensure that the proper record is created and that the best legal arguments are presented, and preserved for potential review.
